StarKid ("StarKid", "we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the information entrusted to us.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose information when you use the StarKid mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using StarKid, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

  • Family name and language preference
  • Parent and child profile names
  • Parent profile photos and optional child profile photos
  • Illustrated avatar and theme selections for child profiles

Photos and Camera Use

The app may request camera access to scan QR codes when linking a child device.

With StarKid Pro, parents may enable photo proof for chore completion. Children may also attach optional photos to wish suggestions.

Photos are stored securely and are visible only to members of the same family account, except where access is necessary for support, security, or legal compliance.

Device and Account Linking

When you link devices or use shared tablet mode, we may store:

  • Device type and platform
  • Linked device records associated with your family
  • Family invite codes used to link child devices

2. Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Service, we may automatically collect:

  • Device type, operating system, and app version
  • Language and locale settings
  • Push notification tokens and device identifiers used to deliver notifications
  • Subscription status and entitlement information from Apple, Google, or RevenueCat
  • In-app activity data needed to operate family features, such as tasks completed, stars earned, and challenge progress
  • Technical logs related to authentication, security, and service reliability

We do not collect precise location information.

Optional read-aloud features use your device's built-in text-to-speech and do not send spoken audio to our servers.

3. Information About Children

StarKid is designed for family use under parental supervision and may include child profiles created by a parent or legal guardian.

Child profiles are managed by the family administrator. Children do not create independent public accounts.

Parents control:

  • Child profile creation and removal
  • Chore assignments and approvals
  • Wishes, rewards, and redemptions
  • Family challenges and settings
  • Device linking and shared tablet access
  • Optional photo submission features
  • Notification preferences for child devices

Family data is private to your household. StarKid does not provide social feeds, public child profiles, or advertising directed at children.

If we become aware that information was collected from a child in a manner inconsistent with applicable law, we will take steps to remove the information.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide and operate the Service
  • Authenticate parents and manage family accounts
  • Assign, track, and approve chores and wishes

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information.

We do not use third-party advertising networks in the child experience.

We may share information with:

Service Providers

Third-party providers that help operate StarKid, including:

  • Supabase (authentication, database, storage, and backend services)
  • RevenueCat (subscription status and entitlement management)
  • Expo (push notification delivery)
  • Apple and Google (sign-in and payment processing)

These providers may access information only as necessary to perform services on our behalf.

Within Your Family

Information you add to a family account, including child activity, chores, wishes, and photos, is visible to authorized members of that family account.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required to:

  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Respond to lawful requests
  • Protect users
  • Protect our rights or property
  • Prevent fraud or security threats

6. Push Notifications

If you enable push notifications, we store a push token and related device information so we can send alerts you have chosen to receive, such as task reminders, wish updates, and family challenge progress.

You can manage notification preferences in the app. Even when push delivery is paused, some events may still appear in your in-app notification inbox.

7. Subscription Information

If you purchase a subscription through Apple App Store or Google Play:

  • Payment information is processed by Apple or Google.
  • StarKid does not receive your full payment card information.
  • We receive subscription status, product identifiers, and transaction-related information necessary to provide premium features through RevenueCat.

8. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as necessary to:

  • Provide the Service
  • Maintain family accounts
  • Resolve disputes
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Enforce our agreements

When information is no longer needed, we will delete or anonymize it where reasonably possible.

9. Account and Data Deletion

Parents may remove individual child profiles from within the app. Removing a child profile deletes associated tasks, wishes, star history, achievements, photos, and linked devices for that child.

Parents may request deletion of an entire family account and associated data by contacting help@starkid.app.

Upon account deletion:

  • Family and child profiles may be removed
  • Task, wish, and challenge history may be removed
  • Uploaded photos may be removed
  • Linked device records may be removed
  • Associated personal information may be deleted, subject to legal retention requirements

However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including where our service providers operate.

When you sign in with Apple or Google, those providers process authentication according to their own privacy policies.
